Résumé
Each family is a system that works as a unit. Every death, especially if it is a violent, unexpected, accidental, self-inflicted, or premature one, is a major trauma for the family system. It has a stressful effect on everyone in the family, leading to physiological, interpersonal, and emotional reactions, which in their turn are hard to understand and overcome. A traumatic death can change a family system as a whole. The duration of mourning may be very different for each family member and for the family in its entirety; the same applies to the content and form of the mourning process (Rosenblatt, in press).
